The “Two Wildes Sculpture” is whimsical streetscape sculpture imagining the possible meeting in 1892 of Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) and Eduard Wilde (1865-1933) who were contemporary Irish and Estonian authors.

The sculpture was erected in Tartu, Estonia in 1999 and an exact copy was erected in Galway, Ireland in 2004. The Galway version was made as a gift by Estonia to Ireland on the occasion of Estonias accession to the European Union.

The Wilde name is more than just a coincidence of two authors names: in 1766, Dr. Peter Ernst Wilde established the printing and publishing business which for two centuries operated from the redbrick building at Vallikraavi 4, Tartu - now site of the Tartu sculpture.
The “Two Wildes Sculpture”, created by Tiiu Kirsipuu has become one of the most photographed sculptures not only in Tartu but also in Galway.
